文献摘要

Following a change of housing systems for laying hens in Sweden, outbreaks of erysipelas have been diagnosed in flocks in indoor litterbased and free-range systems. This observation is of general interest due to the ban on conventional cages within the EU from 2012. The outbreaks, caused by infection with Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, have been associated with high mortality and decreased egg production. In this study, the occurrence of erysipelas and the presence of antibodies to E.rhusiopathiae in Swedish laying hen flocks in different housing systems were compared.
